Living In Live View
“Great! Meet me on 48th Street. I’m headed your way. You can see me moving on the Find My Phone App.” I respond to Reggie’s text with a double red heart emoji.
Ah….yes. Following our “Dots”, we will walk toward one another, and upon meeting, we’ll embrace. We’ll talk about our evening as we stroll arm and arm to our hotel.
He will update life happenings of the family friend with whom he met for dinner.
The mascara on my cheeks will make sense as I detail the Off Broadway romantic comedy melded with medically intense moments I had just seen.
Sigh..the perfect ending to our first full day in New York City. Me walking toward his Dot, his Dot moving closer to mine…Step by step, the distance narrows. (At this point I must confess to being a hopeless romantic)
After crossing 7th Ave, I check the status of our anticipated rendezvous.
Wait, we’ve actually moved further apart. How is he now behind me?!
I check and re-check the All Knowing App as I search the faces of 48th Street pedestrians.
Noticing the displaced dots, Reggie phones. “….Stay where you are, I will come to you.”
Shaking my head yet allowing a slight smile, I tuck my phone in my pocket, have a seat on a bench to wait as he backtracks to our reunion.
So, it turns out, we had passed one another — yep, so fixated on and fascinated by those little moving blips, we had totally missed the “live view”.
We did hug and we did stroll arm and arm through Rockefeller Center, stopping for dessert in Grand Central Market. I enjoyed hearing about our young friend and telling Reggie about the play, “Left on Tenth”. Yes, day one was perfect.
Our missing one another while “watching” one another has made for laughs. And lessons.
So, this New Year, new month, week, heck, everyday — I’m gonna try, really try, and walk my path in “live view.”
Be willing to Be Open, Be Aware. Look up, look around, look into eyes of those crossing this path I’m graced to travel.
See, Stop, Inquire, Offer, and then listen. Soak it in, and always share the best of what I have.
Happy New Year…Happy EVERYthing
